Water to the Last MileThe Community Water Infrastructure Ecosystem
Water closer to people. Opportunity closer to communities.
Store it. Access it. Deliver it. Sustain it.
Water infrastructure should do more than store water. It should bring reliable access closer to the people who need it. BRC is developing a Community Water Infrastructure Ecosystem that connects water storage, access infrastructure and potential last-mile delivery through an integrated, community-centred approach.
Where this project stands
Concept stage: the need, the solution and the delivery model are defined. The next step is validation with technical, site and funding partners.

How it works
One ecosystem, from source and storage to household access.
-
01
Store
Community storage tanks, supporting structures and security at an assessed site.
-
02
Access
Taps at accessible community collection points.
-
03
Deliver
Local water vendors carrying water from fixed points to households (being explored).
-
04
Sustain
Planning for maintenance, operating costs and long-term community service.
Two infrastructure solutions
- Standard Water Access Package A community-level water access point with storage tanks, supporting structures, security, taps and installation. Each site is assessed for its requirements, water source and operational needs.
- Premium Water Infrastructure Package A more comprehensive solution that may include borehole development, pumping, solar power, battery storage, filtration, storage and security, subject to site conditions, water availability and technical feasibility.
Connecting water with local enterprise
BRC is exploring opportunities for local water vendors to deliver water from fixed community access points to households. This could connect essential infrastructure with local enterprise, service provision and income-generating opportunities, while planning for maintenance, operating costs and long-term sustainability.
From concept to sites
The next phase is to validate candidate sites, confirm water sources and technical requirements, finalise costs, establish operating responsibilities and secure the partnerships required for implementation.
BRC invites municipalities, water authorities, corporate partners, infrastructure funders, engineering specialists, water suppliers, renewable-energy providers and community enterprises to explore collaboration.
